Features

Encryption that nobody else holds the key to.

Zero-knowledge means exactly that: we store nothing that could open your vault. Here's everything built on top of it.

Pattern KeyFreeThe pattern you draw is the key itself. It isn't checked against a stored copy. It decrypts your vault.Recovery PhraseFreeA set of random words that can rebuild your key if you ever forget your pattern. Write it down once and keep it offline.Deniable VaultsFreeEvery pattern opens a vault. A wrong pattern doesn't show an error, so nobody can tell whether more is hidden.Hidden VaultsProKeep separate vaults behind separate patterns, each with its own key, for work, family, health, or anything else.Panic PatternProSet a pattern that, when drawn, quietly opens a decoy and can permanently erase chosen vaults.Encrypted BackupFree + ProBack up to iCloud in encrypted form. Apple stores the data but can't read it, and neither can we.Private SharingProSend a photo or file through an encrypted, expiring link. The key travels in the link and never reaches a server.Device SyncProKeep your vault in step across iPhone and iPad. Changes sync as encrypted data, never as readable files.Vault CameraFreeTake photos and videos straight into the vault. They never touch your camera roll, iCloud Photos, or Memories.Disguised IconsFree + ProSwap the home-screen icon for a calculator, notes, weather, or a plain design that doesn't draw attention.Security ArchitectureFreeAES-256-GCM, a slow key-derivation function, and per-file keys. Here's exactly how your data is protected.Built for Everyday UseFreeImport in bulk, search, sort into albums, swipe through videos. Strong security that still feels like a normal photo app.

How it works

Three steps. No sign-up.

  1. 01

    Draw your pattern

Pick a pattern on the 3×3 grid. It's turned into a 256-bit encryption key right on your iPhone, and never saved anywhere.

  2. 02

    Fill your vault

Import from Photos or Files, or shoot straight into the Vault Camera. Every file is encrypted the moment it arrives.

  3. 03

    Lock and it's gone

Leave the app and the key is wiped from memory. Without your pattern, what's left on the phone is unreadable.

Security model

If we were hacked tomorrow, your photos would still be safe.

There is no server-side copy of your key, so there's nothing to leak, subpoena or sell.

  • AES-256-GCM encryption for every file, thumbnail and file name
  • Argon2id key derivation makes each guess slow and expensive
  • Keys exist only in memory while the vault is open
  • No account, no analytics SDKs, no ad networks

vault.unlock(pattern)
  ├─ salt ← device keychain
  ├─ key = argon2id(pattern, salt)
  │ memory: 64 MiB · passes: 3
  ├─ file_key = unwrap(key, header)
  └─ plaintext = aes_256_gcm.open(file_key)

vault.lock()
  └─ zeroize(key, file_keys) // gone

Someone grabs your phone.

They know your passcode. Maybe they watched you type it. They open Photos, the Hidden album, your notes. Then they open Veilbox, draw a guess, and see an empty vault that looks completely normal.

Nothing to find. Nothing to prove.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Is Veilbox really free?

Yes. The main vault, pattern encryption, Vault Camera and backup of your main vault are free with no ads. Veilbox Pro adds hidden vaults, the panic pattern, sync, sharing and more icons.

Do I need to create an account?

No. There's no sign-up, no email and no phone number. Your vault is tied to your pattern, not to an identity.

What happens if I forget my pattern?

Use the recovery phrase you wrote down when you created the vault. Without the pattern or the phrase, nobody can open the vault, including us.

Can you see my photos?

No. Files are encrypted on your iPhone before they're saved or backed up, using a key derived from your pattern. We never receive that key.

What if someone forces me to open the app?

Every pattern opens a vault, so you can open a decoy without showing anything else. With Pro you can also set a panic pattern. See Deniable Vaults for details.

Does it work on iPad?

Yes. Veilbox runs on iPhone and iPad, and Pro can keep them in sync.

Your phone is shared more than you think. Your vault doesn't have to be.
